Abloy Electric Lock Technical Training Course

RSPL will be hosting ABLOY training at our premises in Drumcondra, Dublin on the 12th of August 2026, and we are inviting you to attend.

ABLOY is a hallmark of trust. Setting the global benchmark in advanced locking and access management systems. Always focused on delivering the highest quality and sustainability - creating a more secure, safer future.

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to electrically controlled locking systems, with a strong focus on standards compliance, product selection, and correct installation.

What Will Be Covered?

It begins by clarifying the difference between fire doors and emergency/panic escape doors, emphasising the importance of correctly specifying escape door systems in line with standards such as BS EN 179, BS EN 1125, and BS EN 13637.

The course then covers essential lock terminology and components, including backset, follower, spindle types, and strike plates, helping installers understand how lock configuration and door construction impact performance and compliance.

A key part of the training focuses on the installation requirements for electric locks, including correct morticing, cable routing, door gaps, handing, and the importance of using certified components to maintain compliance—particularly on fire and escape doors.

The course introduces the full range of Abloy electric locks, including:

  • Solenoid locks (e.g. EL460, EL560, EL580 series)
  • Motor locks (e.g. EL520, EL590, EL495 series)
  • Specialist locks (e.g. sliding door, low energy, and double-action door solutions)

Each product group is explained in terms of functionality, compliance, wiring, and typical applications, including features such as fail locked/unlocked modes, read-in/read-out access control, and integration with door automation.

Finally, the course highlights special applications (e.g. delayed egress, double doors), as well as testing tools and best practice commissioning, ensuring systems are installed safely, operate correctly, and meet regulatory requirements.
